How it went down

Well, the Eagles got killed. Shocker. It was as hot as all get out and I thought I was going to die. We cheered for them until half time from section 603. Do you hear me? We were in section 603! 6 levels up ... I could have touched the sun. The "nose bleed" section does not even begin to describe where we sat! It was okay though because I had my bff sitting next to me and we whined together. It was fun to see so many familiar faces from college! It floors me that there were close to 100,000 people in that stadium and we ran in to at least 30 people that we knew. We also watched 3 different people being carried off on stretchers and being iced down. I am telling you, it was HOT!!!!

This is my friend, Nicole, and me before the game ... can't show you any other pics because my dress was soaken wet with sweat in places no girl wants sweat :)

Tonight we went over to my aunt and uncle's house to swim and had a little family cook out. My cousin recently had TRIPLETS and they are sooo precious. They are about 5 months old so there were babies to go around for everyone. We took pictures and I will be sure to post them soon (they weren't on my camera but my aunt promised she would email them to me).

I have eaten non-stop for 3 days straight. I'm begining to feel a little nauseous. I will continue with the binge through tomorrow but Tuesday it is on like donkey kong. I am going to be sorry 4 weeks from now when I am sitting on the beach in Costa Rica looking (and feeling) like a beached whale. Yes ma'am, it is on. 5 pounds in 4 weeks is completely do-able. But, good lord, I hate a diet. I should have joined Operation Skinny Bitch. Wonder if they are still accepting members?!?!

Have a good one!

Ya'll have a great weekend! Be safe, enjoy time with your family and friends, say a quick prayer for our troops, cheer hard for your team(s) and most importantly ....

I want feedback asap!

Get a piece of this!

Seriously, it will make me feel better. Because I had ... ohhhh .... FOUR! We had a little shindig at the mexican restaurant for mi madre last night. I was in charge of the cake. Take a look at what I conjured up.

Now tell me that's not adorable! It was two layers with chocolate and vanilla. Impressive, no? I was scarfing it down so fast that the Beau said, "Slow down, honey. Nobody is going to take it from you!" Lay off me ... I couldn't get enough in at one time!

Sorry the quality of the pictures are so terrible, all I had was my camera phone.

Okay so I didn't make that cake. I ordered it. You lay off me too! However, that is one of my goals ... to be able to make a cake that cute before my first child's first birthday. Because, yes, I want to be "that mom." But whatever, that's a long time from now :)

Anyhoo, here is a picture of the gang from last night. Some peeps got cut out, sorry bout that!

Good times, good times!

The Big Five - Ohh!

My mom has a big ole birthday to celebrate today! She acts 25 (in a good way), she looks 35 (in a good way as well) but she is turning the big 5-0! Here are the top 50 reasons I am so glad she is my mom:

1. She has set incredibly high standards as a wife, as a mother, as a friend, and as a Christian.
2. She puts her family before anything else in the world.
3. She put me in smocked dresses and huge hairbows until I was 10 :)
4. She loves my brother more than you can imagine (she loves me too) but something about that boy!
5. She took me to Hawaii when I was in the 7th grade.
6. The whole trip was a surprise until we got to the airport ... that's the kind of mom she is!
7. Every birthday party was an elaborate extravaganza.
8. As was my wedding ... I am still in awe!
9. She adds detail and significance to everything ...
10. She had the inside of my wedding gown monogrammed.
11. She does not tolerate materialism but bought me a Vera Wang gown because of its beauty!
12. She never missed a beat when we were growing up.
13. She was the chaperone on every field trip and at every church camp, she was always the "room mom" when we were in elementary school, she was always the "team mom", the Sunday School teacher, the PTO President, I could go on and on.
14. I wasn't allowed to go to Panama City but she took me and my friends to Destin every Spring Break :)
15. She finally let me go as a Senior in high school and it was everything she told me it would be.
16. I will not let my child go either.
17. Everytime I cried to her on the phone as a freshman in college she would tell me that she would come and get me.
18. She did not like me being 5 hours away!
19. She is the first one to tell me if my hair needs to be highlighted, my make-up is too dark, or my pants are too tight :)
20. I appreciate those "criticisms" ... most of the time!
21. She made sure that we had wonderful childhood memories.
22. We always had a scavenger hunt to find our Easter baskets.
23. We always got to open one present on Christmas Eve.
24. Our stocking were always filled with the best stuff imaginable.
25. She helped the Beau plan the perfect proposal!
26. She has the closest, sweetest, most fun group of friends.
27. And I am telling you, they don't act 50 :)
28. They go on roadtrips to GA football games, they take beach trips and ski trips, and they go on sunset "booze cruises" on the lake.
29. Please note that she cannot take down a full glass of wine before she is either silly or asleep!
30. She is super dooper creative.
31. She has a little bit of a hard time with execution ... we are both waayyy ADD :)
32. She has taken me to New York during Christmas multiple times on "girl trips" and I have the best memories from those trips! However, we never saw her face as it was covered by a scarf the entire time ... she hates to be cold.
33. We went on family vacations to Hilton Head for years and I distinctly remember riding bikes, taking pictures, and hanging out in Harbor Town.
34. She let me take friends on vacation at the age of 6 ... that was WAY cool.
35. She sent me all over Europe for 3 weeks the summer before my senior year in high school. This was a big surprise as well!
36. She replenished my overdrawn checking account while in college NUMEROUS (read: way too many) times and I am very apologetic and grateful.
37. She encourages me to be better and to do better each and every day.
38. She teaches me all sorts of tricks to save money. Boy, she has the Publix, Kroger, CVS, Wal-Mart sales down pat.
39. My dad travelled during the week when we were young and I would sometimes sleep in the bed with my mom. She would give me an orange and a peppermint stick and I would suck the juice out of the orange through the peppermint stick. Is that normal? We both loved MASH and I always remember watching it in her bed while sucking that peppermint orange. Keep in mind I was appx. 5 years old ... probably not normal to like MASH :)
40. She instilled good habits and good values in my brother and me.
41. We always sat down at the table together as a family for dinner at least a couple nights a week. Even if it wasn't our table ... restaurant tables serve the same purpose!
42. We share the same love of random, some would say disgusting, junk food ... swiss cake rolls, coke floats, peeps, cheez-its with m&m's mixed in (shut up, its like trail mix), snowballs. I will stop there as you cannot get any more RANDOM than snowballs.
43. She always chose her battles wisely.
44. "Mrs. Perfect Preppy Parent" even let me get a belly button ring when I was 15 {gasp}.
45. She knew I would get tired of it soon enough.
46. She was right. But 9 years later that stupid hole has never closed up.
47. She did say that if I got a tattoo she wouldn't pay for a wedding dress.
48. I believed her!
49. She did the perfect job distinguishing mom and friend ... and I have come to realize as I get older that can be a really fine line.
50. AND ... she gave me really good genes :) She is itty bitty and is as cute as can be!!!

[Note: I am, however, presently not itty bitty but at least I know I have the potential to be after two 10 pound kiddos]

"Her children will rise up and call her blessed"....Proverbs 31:28

Love you, Mom! Here's to fifty more!!!!!

Wedding Wednesdays

I decided to start this blog to chronicle what was going on in our lives as well as share my thoughts and ideas. Well, since our wedding has basically consumed my life the past year and a half I want to share with you certain aspects of it. So why don't we engage in ... WEDDING WEDNESDAYS! Sound fun? I think so, too!

Let us quickly catch-up. We got married in May on Saint Simons Island ... my favorite place on earth. We were engaged for a year and a half (way too long). Like every other fabulous, preppy bride I wanted a pink and green wedding. I wanted it to be a destination wedding at the beach. I wanted the ceremony in a church and I wanted the reception outside. I wanted every detail to be pink and green. I wanted a live mo-town band. I wanted the boys in navy blazers with pink ties and light linen pants. I wanted the girls in apple green dresses with bright pink tulips. Actually I wanted tulips everywhere. You get the idea! Classic. Southern. Preppy.

Okay, today we will talk about FLOWERS! I feel like my flowers absolutely made my wedding. At the beginning stages of planning I could not have cared less about the flowers. I was focused on the venues, the food, the band, the invitations ... I knew I wanted tulips and didn't care about anything else. Well when we began to meet with the florist I quickly learned that tulips were a hard flower to work with. She warned me that they are very finicky, they have a tendency to droop at any given moment without warning, and they do not tolerate heat well. Awesome, huh. We discussed, debated and deliberated and we all knew that I wasn't going to be satisfied without tulips. She showed me dozens of other options but my heart was with the tulip :) They are really and truly one of the only flowers that I love (actually, even like). She said she would order them and do her best but I had to understand that they may not turn out exactly how I wanted them since it was May and that is not their peak season. I took a leap of faith and told her to do it. Risky business. And oh I am so glad I did because they were absolutely stunning! The arrangements and bouquets were simple, elegant, but at the same time cute, and made me smile all night long!

These are the pictures of the bridesmaids bouquets. I almost cried when I walked in to the brides room at the church and saw them all in vases sitting on the table. They were perfect! **The last one is of my sister-in-law with her bouquet, such a pretty picture of her (and the flowers)**

This is one of my favorite little arrangements. There were 4 of these saving 2 pews on each side for family. So simple and sweet!

As for my bouquet ... I wanted white - white tulips of course. She actually talked me in to incorporating roses to give it a rounder, fuller shape. I was very happy with how it turned out.

I adored the groomsman's boutonnieres. Again, simple and classic. My florist told me that it takes her longer to make bouts than it does any other arrangement. That shocked me!

We only had one arrangement in the church but it was massive. I am disappointed that I don't have a better picture of it. I have never seen such big, tall flowers in my life.

Oh I forgot, I lied. There is one other flower that I LOVE. Orchids! Insanely expensive orchids! Look at how pretty they are on the the cake. PS - I found a cake just like this on the knot.com and got the pastry chef to replicate it. So if it was yours ... I love it :)

And now pictures of the arrangements at the reception. I have never been so impressed with somebodies talent in all of my life. My florist was phenomenal! She read my mind. The first picture is of the reception site ... we could not have asked for prettier weather! The other 2 pictures were the 2 different table arrangements.

Thanks for letting me share!!! Next week maybe we can talk about photography!

xoxo~

Oh and speaking of photography all these pictures are copyright of Donna Von Bruening 2008 so please don't "borrow" without permission. Thanks a mill!

White trash ... with an emphasis on white

So I call my hair salon first thing this morning in a desperate attempt to make an appointment before the big game this weekend. My sweet stylist is always super accommodating and said that she could fit me in tomorrow at lunch. Perfect! I told her I needed a highlight and a trim, we confirmed, and right before we hung up she said .... "uh, I was thinking maybe we could put some dark highlights in since fall is coming up" and as soon as I heard the word "dark" I was thinking in my head .... uh, HELL TO THE NO! She must have sensed the awkward pause because she then said, "or we could just tone down the blonde so it isn't so (pause) white". Of course since I am a huge sissy I said, "yeah we can do that". When really in my head I am screaming ..... DO NOT TOUCH MY WHITE HAIR!!! I LIKE IT!!!! I LIKE MY WHITE HAIR!!!!!! (all in one breath)

And truth be told it is not white. You can see it in an earlier post. It has taken me a long time to find a color I like and we are not messing it up, not this time, no sir-e. I have experimented with brown, I gave it a fair shot, and I have one word: DIE-skusting!

So, this is the question. How do you tell someone that you enjoy your white trash blonde hair without sounding like white trash? Tricky. But I will figure it out by tomorrow at noon.

A party like this happens once every 4 years!

2008 ... it's a been a big year for the newlyweds I tell ya! We got married, my baby brother turned 21, my mom turns 50 (this Thursday, actually) and so did my dad, the Beau and I both started new jobs, the Olympics, it's a big election year and the list could go on and on. But this, my friends, is BIG ...

Georgia -vs- Georgia Southern,
Saturday, August 30th at 12:30 p.m.
Sanford Stadium

Only once every 4 years does this happen! Our blood runs red and black and always has. My parents are both originally from Athens and most of our family is still there, my dad played baseball for Georgia in the late seventies and early eighties, we have had the same tailgate spot and seats since I have been in the 5th grade, the best food you have ever been served is at that tailgate, and some of my very best memories have been on Saturdays in Athens, Georgia. But guess what? The Beau, my brother, and myself did not go to the University of Georgia. We went way down south to Georgia Southern University and had the time of our lives! I will admit that in the fall of 2002 I went to my first Georgia Southern football game as a freshman and I cried. Now, the tears may have been induced by a few tailgate beverages but nonetheless, there were tears. My high school football team drew crowds larger than this! Why did my dad say it would be okay to come to school here? It was as hot as blue blazes and nobody even brought any food to the tailgate ... but lots of drinks! I was a little (okay, a lot) distraught. But over the years I really began to appreciate Georgia Southern football and will be excited to one day take my own kids way down south to Statesboro, G-A to experience football at its finest :) So this Saturday, in Athens, I will proudly wear my yellow dress inside Sanford Stadium and cheer on the Georgia Southern Eagles! But, in all honesty, I am relieved that I will not have to do it again until 2012!!!

"I'm gonna say it one more time.
We are Georgia Southern.
Our colors are blue and white.
We call ourselves the Bald Eagles.
We call our offense the Georgia Power Company...
and that's a terrific name for an offense.
Our snap count is "rate, hike".
We practice on the banks of Beautiful Eagle Creek
and that's in Statesboro, Georgia--
the gnat capital of America.
Our weekends begin on Thursday.
The co-eds outnumber the men 3 to 2.
They're all good looking and they're all rich.
And folks, you just can't beat that...
and you just can't beat Georgia Southern.
And you ain't seen nothin yet... "
-Erk Russell, 1989

This was the Beau's cake at our Rehearsal dinner. Cute for an eagle , huh?!?

Friday's Five Fabulous Finds

These are the things that have really "tickled my fancy" here lately. And you will be impressed that said items are all under 35 dolla ... make you holla! Let's begin-

Fabulous Find #1: Tide High Performance Roller

This is not your typical lint roller. If any of you have pets (or a husband that is "shedding" hair) you NEED this! I roll my couch at least once a week and my clothes multiple times per week and this bad boy gets the job done as well as leaves a nice hint of vanilla and lavender behind. It is scented ... making everything feel so fresh and so clean, clean. You are probably going to pay a couple dollars more for this scented, powerhouse but very well worth it.

Fabulous Find #2: Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder

Not a great picture but a GREAT product. Now this is basically like a dry shampoo and it comes in all different shades for different hair colors. This will cost you about $35 for 4 ounces (yikes) but it is the absolute best hair product I have ever purchased and let me tell you, I have hair ISSUES. I have the oiliest scalp known to man. I should wash my hair appx. every 8 hours, but 3 showers per day just doesn't fit in the schedule. BUT I have very, very, horrendously dry hair (you know, the actual hair part). So super oily scalp and super dry hair, you with me? Makes for a bad combination. Well the hair powder is like magic for my mane. I cannot use in replace of my daily shampoo, however, I can use it to prevent oil throughout the day and I always use it after work if I have somewhere to be and do not have time for a hair wash. But the beauty of this product is that it also gives me lots of volume and (insert a choir singing "Glory, Glory Hallelujah") disguises those nasty dark roots when in desperate need of a highlight. I HEART this product. Seriously.

Fabulous Find #3: Peanut Butter Whoppers

I have no idea what is wrong with me but I crave these things in my sleep. I came across them about a month ago and have consumed more than I care to mention. I am not even a huge fan of regular Whoppers but these things make me salivate ... I am salivating right now as I type. If you like Reese's peanut butter candy you will l-o-v-e these. Most addicting candy I have ever put in my mouth!

Fabulous Find #4: OPI Nail Polish in Bubble Bath

I love painted finger nails and this has been my go-to polish all spring and summer long. It gives the perfect amount of classic color. A friend from my office and I have passed it back and forth for months now and I don't seem to ever get tired of it. I carry it with me in purse at all times and I always get compliments on my nails. Nobody can belive that they are my real nails and I know it's beause of the polish. It gives a real 'fresh from the salon, American manicured' look.

Last but not least, Fabulous Find #5: Gilligan & O'Malley Micro Chemise from Target

I have heard a lot of talk about the Gilligan & O'Malley lounge pants out in bloggy world. Well on my most recent trip to Target I discovered these oh-so-soft nighties. I have had 2 lingerie gifts to buy and I was excited about these finds. I know they are on the conservative end for a lingerie gift but I was so thankful for all the cute, sweet night gowns that I could actually wear on a nightly basis. I would rather sleep in a little nightie than anything else. And did I mention how soft they are? Check them out at Target.com ... $15 makes them even better!

I feel better already

I just got this email from my grandmother and I had to share. We all need to feel better about ourselves (at the expense of celebrities) every once in a while! Stars caught without make-up ... up first, Katherine Heigl

Then we have Beyonce
Cameron Diaz
and now Penelope Cruz

a few more and then I will show you The Belle (with The Beau) with and without make-up ...

It seems only fair that I let you see my own WITHOUT and WITH pictures so here you go...

I am not as computer savvy as I would like to be. If I knew how to zoom in on my face I would. But I don't, so this will have to due for now!

Do you feel better?

Take a seat ... On the floor

So I went to Book Club last night and we had a ball. Everyone seems to be really excited about it! I was relieved when some of the other girls said that they were nervous about reading "grown up books" as well. We decided we would read a good mixture of books, including smutty girl books. Woo Hoo! We mostly socialized, drank wine, and munched on yummy appetizers but we decided that we had to have some organization. We chose a leader, decided which day we would meet every month, who would host, and, most importantly, who would bring the food and drinks each month. The book we will be reading this month is.... Have any of you read this book? I have heard very good things about it but I also heard great things about Kite Runner and it took me 3 months to get through that one! It was a fabulous book, once I finished, but I had to force myself to read it. I must get through this one though ... you can't come unprepared :) We were cracking up last night talking about another book club in town that one of the girls mother is in. It is serious business. The women range from mid-40's to 87 and there are 20 women in the club ... someone literally has to die before someone else can join. How funny is that? Small town stuff for ya. They have a president, a secretary, and (get this) bi-laws! That particular book club has been around for FIFTY years. Crazy, huh?!?

But anyways, here is the kicker! January will be my month to host ... January 14th to be exact. No big deal, right? Wrong! The Beau and I got married in May and we both came in to this marriage with NO furniture. And I am not exagerrating. Zippo. Zilch. Nadda. How this happened, I am not quite sure. For our wedding gift my grandparents let me pick out a sofa and it is gorg-E-ous but all 12 of us cannot sit on that one sofa. The Beau's parents bought us a breakfast table and that fills our dining area. And I bought a pretty sofa table from a local antique shop a couple of months ago. So basically we now have 3 pieces in our living areas. On the bright side, I love everything that we do have because it is all new (and I picked it out) but we are going to need just a few other pieces ... like pronto. What we have is fine just to have another couple over, but 12 folks? This ain't cutting it. This has given me inspiration to get motivated! I am one of those people with buyer's remorse and it's so hard with furniture because its permanent (or at least 5 years permanent) and you have to look at it every single day. I have been contemplating for a couple of months now what I want. The essentials are some type of chair, a coffee table and a side table. The Beau really wants a leather club chair with an ottoman and that is great with me and it will match well with our sofa. Maybe something like this ...

or this (with an ottoman) ...The first one is from Pottery Barn and the second one is from Z-Gallerie. Naturally, the one from PB is my favorite but would you like to know how much it costs? Over $1500 and another $900 for the ottoman. So that is out of the question. The one from Z-Gallerie is nice too, and much cheaper, but I am worried about it being too small. I gotta fill some space! Does anyone have any suggestions of where I can find something similar?

These little guys right here are top on my Christmas list. They are from Pottery Barn and actually are reasonably priced.

If you have any suggestions on furniture buying please send them my way. I need all the help I can get!!

PS- My camera is broken, but I will try to get a picture of my sofa asap so you can see what we are working with/around.

I am Begging ... Pleading!

I am well aware that there is a major difference in needs and wants. But don't you think that if you REALLY need and want something than you should be able to have it? That's what I thought! I really, really, really want/need a maid, housekeeper ... heck, I will call her Princess if she wants as long as she will come clean my house. We actually are renting an apartment right now but it's not in an apartment complex - its a very old, antebellum home that has been made in to 4 separate apartments. It's a super cute place with hardwood floors, very high ceilings, a fireplace, etc. But have you found that in old houses, no matter how hard you try, they never seem to look (or feel) ultra clean? Well .... I have found that and the only solution I can think of is to bring in a professional! Agreed? It is not a very big place so it would only take her a couple of hours, probably 3 at the max. And I only would need her once every other week! I can keep the house tidy, I just really want someone who can help me keep it CLEAN. Wiping down baseboards and window sills, dusting blinds, and cleaning the inside of the refrigerator are all chores that I cannot bring myself to do. Is that lazy? Wait, don't answer that.

Pleeeeease let me have her ... let me just try her out ... just once ...... pleeeeeeease!

On another note, the Beau and I went over to some friends house last night for dinner. They are one of our new couple friends and we had such a good time. I emailed her this morning and told her that when we got in the car to leave we had no idea it was already 11 pm! They probably thought we were never going to leave! I didn't go to bed until after midnight because I had to watch Little Miss Shawn Johnson win that GOLD! No more Olympics for me though, it is affecting my sleep too much! You will learn that I require a MINIMUM of 8 hours per night :)

Tonight I am going to a Book Club. Have any of you ever attended a book club? I have never participated in one before but I am really looking forward to it. I love to read but, as I have mentioned before, I wouldn't say that I have the most mature taste in books. And I have this suspicious feeling that we won't be reading a book from the Shopaholic series. What if they ask what was the last book you read? I will have to say, "ummmm, actually it was called Skinny Bitches." That probably won't make the best impression. Maybe I should lie. Yep, I think that would be an appropriate time to lie! I'll update ya'll tomorrow....

Weekend Wrap-Up!

We had a very low-key, relaxing weekend ... we stayed in town and I got plenty of rest of exercise. Okay that was a lie, but I did get plenty of rest :) However, I feel like I got hit by a freight train! I am so incredibly exhausted today and I have no idea why. I even went home on my lunch break, laid down on the couch and I was dead to the world in less than 2 minutes. Maybe its just a BAD case of the Mondays.

Anyways, Friday night we did dinner and a movie with our sweet newlywed couple friends and had a great time. We ate at my favorite Mexican restaurant and then went and saw Pineapple Express ... not so impressive. I bet you never would have guessed that a movie about 2 idiot guys who smoke marijuana all day and witness a murder would not have been good. Huge let down, I know. I will admit there were some funny parts but it wasn't an Oscar-worthy performance :)

Saturday I wanted to get out of town for a little while to do some shopping. Unfortunatley our little town isn't rich in that area! I had a couple of wedding gifts still left to exchange so
my mom and I drove to Columbus for the afternoon. And I have to tell ya'll how disappointed I am in one of my favorite stores of all time.

Yep, that's right, I am mad at Target. As most of you probably know, they changed their return policy which is all fine and good. But I registered at Target for my wedding in May and my love for the store steadily began to decline. My registry was never updated so I got many duplicates which again is fine, I would just swap them out ... I could spend hundreds of dollars in Target on any given day. But this is not fine for them! To exchange anything under $30 you must have a receipt. Well I didn't buy these items they were GIFTS! I have been round and round with customer service 3 times in the past 3 months. They could not understand my point and said I should have gift receipts. Oh, I am sorry that my shower invitations didn't go something like this:

Please join us for a Kitchen Shower

honoring Belle and her Beau

and please remember to attach a gift receipt!

I understand that people take advantage of places like Wal-Mart who will take anything back but I think that there should be some kind of exception for people who are registered at the store. It has been extremely frustrating and I would discourage my friends to register there for bridal or baby unless the policy changes. Sad times, huh. Don't worry Tar-jay, I will still spend lots and lots of money that I shouldn't at your store I am sure. I just won't register there when I get married again :) Just kidding!

Sunday we went to Sunday School and Church and then later on that afternoon I went to a Lingerie Shower for one of my friends from work. She is getting married on Saturday and we are so excited for her!

Here's to another week ... let it be a quick one!

Sucker for the Stars & Stripes

Play the National Anthem anytime, anywhere and I get the chills all over my body and my eyes well up with tears. Happens every time! Last night was no exception. How exciting for all the Olympians! I loved hearing the American National Anthem play each time the athletes were presented with their gold medals! Every time the camera flashed to Michael Phelps mother I cried. Just a tiny bit emotional!

Does anyone want to talk about how cute Shawn Johnson is? I could absolutely eat her up! And does anyone else want to talk about those Chinese gymnasts? Now they are cute as they can be as well but some of those girls cannot be a day over 12. Seriously ... does that look like a 16 year old? I'm just saying.

Anyways, ya'll have a good Friday night!

xoxo~
